Xbox Game Pass's October Haul Leads With Gears of War: E-Day

Eleven games land on Xbox Game Pass this month, headlined by Gears of War: E-Day and Battlefield 6, but the PC performance numbers will decide who actually plays them.

Eleven new games is a big number until you count how many of them are actually built for the hardware you're playing on, and the answer here is: most of them, mercifully, including a PC release date that doesn't lag weeks behind the console drop for once.

Gears of War: E-Day is the headline act, an Xbox console exclusive that's loud, dumb, and violent in the specific way that means the explosions were tested for frame pacing and not just marketing copy. It's out now on cloud, console, and PC, alongside Minecraft Dungeons 2, which reportedly trades some of its predecessor's polish for more ambition (a fair swap, assuming the ambition doesn't come with a stutter tax).

October 8 adds Echo Weaver and Forever Ago as day-one releases, the former a time-management adventure game and the latter a single-player road trip about redemption, because apparently every genre needs its own. Then October 13 brings the real test case: Battlefield 6 for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, large-scale warfare that will live or die on server tick rate and netcode, not on whatever the trailer calls 'next-gen.' Valor Mortis, a first-person soulslike set in the Napoleonic Wars, and Deep Dish Dungeon, a metroidvania-flavored survival dig, round out that wave.

October 15 closes the window with Bluey's Happy Snaps (yes, you photograph the Heeler family, you absolute menace) and the co-op gladiator roguelike Chained Beasts, with Beyond These Stars following a day later as a PC-only day-one release where you build a city on a space whale's back. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Evil West exit the service on the 15th, so that clock is already running.

The full first wave:

  • Gears of War: E-Day and Minecraft Dungeons 2, available now
  • Echo Weaver and Forever Ago, arriving October 8
  • Battlefield 6, Valor Mortis, and Deep Dish Dungeon, arriving October 13
  • Bluey's Happy Snaps, Chained Beasts, and Beyond These Stars, arriving October 15 and 16

Credit to Xbox Nation for the full breakdown of the wave, and to GameSpot for the list that confirms it. Whether any of it hits the frame times it promises is still a question only your own hardware can answer.
