GTA 6 Review Copies May Be Shipping, Xbox Can't Help Itself
Rockstar's next blockbuster might already be sitting on critics' desks, and Xbox apparently couldn't resist teasing a game it doesn't even own.
My side is up before the reviews even drop, and I'm fine admitting Xbox played this one smart.
According to MrBossFTW, review copies of Rockstar's next release may already be circulating among major outlets, which would put the first wave of critic reactions closer than fans have dared to hope. Nothing here comes from Rockstar itself, and no outlet has confirmed receiving a copy, so treat it as a strong rumor and not a release date. MrBossFTW is the only source carrying this particular claim, so it rides on that channel's credibility until somebody with an actual review posts one.
The twist is what Xbox did with the wait. The official Xbox account reportedly posted something suggesting the game was installed and ready to go, according to that same video, and the internet did exactly what you'd expect: it lost its mind speculating about a release Xbox has no hand in making. I'll concede the point because it's earned: that's a clever bit of marketing, riding somebody else's hype wave for free engagement without spending a cent of development budget.
It also tells you where the actual anticipation lives. Xbox doesn't tease its own exclusives this hard anymore because it barely has any left to tease. It borrows hype from the one franchise guaranteed to move consoles regardless of logo. As this site reported earlier, the review copy chatter has been building for days now.
Will Xbox announce anything of its own this week?
No.
