Saros Gets a Free Zenith Update, and Xbox Has Nothing Like It
Housemarque just handed every Saros owner a free overhaul with a boss rush, new difficulty tools, and a New Game+ mode, and it landed on PS5 with nothing comparable waiting across the hall.
PlayStation won this week without even trying, because Housemarque just shipped the Saros: Zenith update free to everyone who already owns the game. That is the scoreboard before I even get to the content, and the content is the kind of thing Xbox doesn't have an equivalent studio to deliver.
Credit where it's due: Xbox's subscription model does put old games in front of people for nothing too, and that's a genuinely good trick when it works. But handing someone a library pass isn't the same as a developer coming back a year later to rebuild the thing you already paid for, for free, because they still care about it.
According to PlayStation.Blog, Zenith adds Slow Game Speed and Auto-fire settings for newcomers, Motion Sensor Aiming with DualSense, and ten new Protection and ten new Trial Modifiers for veterans tuning Carcosa to taste. The new Eclipse Layers New Game+ mode crowns Arjun in gold the deeper you push the difficulty, and that Crown unlocks twelve hidden Visions scattered through the world. GameSpot and the launch trailer on the PlayStation channel both confirm the headline addition: Overlord Rush, a boss-rush mode with three Sets, leaderboards, and weapon-filtered rankings.
What's Xbox's answer to a year-one, no-charge overhaul like this? Nothing.
That silence isn't a gap Xbox can patch with a press release next quarter. It's a gap made of studios that ship, update, and keep updating, and PlayStation currently owns the only one in this fight doing it for free.
