GTA 6's Rumored Lucia Actress Won't Take the Bait Online

Manni L. Perez spent twelve minutes on Instagram talking trucks and dog ownership while thousands begged her to confirm she is Lucia. She did not bite.

Discipline, in an industry built on leaks, is a rarer talent than acting itself, and whatever one makes of the years-long fan case that Manni L. Perez voices Lucia in Grand Theft Auto VI, one must admit the woman can hold a line under pressure that would break most publicists.

Perez, long suspected by Grand Theft Auto theorists of playing the game's co-lead, drew more than two thousand viewers to a recent Instagram livestream on an account barely six months old, and spent the better part of twelve minutes discussing her studio apartment, her dog, her love of cooking, and her upbringing in what she called a small, rural, redneck-y town. She mentioned, with evident sincerity, that she would like a green truck. What she did not mention, despite a steady current of comments invoking Lucia and GTA 6 by name, was Grand Theft Auto VI at all. As reported by IGN, fans tried everything short of a subpoena, including one comment noting she is not, strictly, alone, since she has a character named Jason to keep her company. She answered the questions about her dog instead.

The case for Perez was never built on a confirmation, because Rockstar has not offered one, only on the accumulated detective work IGN and others have tracked for years: single-episode credits on Jessica Jones, The Blacklist, and Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, plus the almost too-neat detail that she already appears in Grand Theft Auto Online as a blackjack dealer. None of that is Rockstar's word, and none of it will become Rockstar's word before launch, given the company's evident fondness for non-disclosure agreements that outlast entire console generations. As Will Mac's channel noted in its own coverage of the livestream, the silence itself has become the story, which tells you something about how little official material Rockstar has allowed anyone to work with.

What has been confirmed, for what little comfort that offers the theorists, is Stephen Root as the drug trafficker Brian Heder, a role Rockstar let him discuss on the record. Lucia's actor and the rumored Jason, long pinned on Dylan Rourke by the same amateur casting department, remain officially nobody. This is, in fairness, a franchise whose fanbase has previously charted planetary positions and tracked atmospheric oxygen levels trying to predict a trailer date, and gotten the date wrong both times, so a woman declining to confirm her own job on a livestream is, relatively speaking, the most restrained thing anyone involved with Grand Theft Auto VI has done all year.

Grand Theft Auto VI still arrives November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, which means the cast list Rockstar will not confirm now has roughly a month left to stay unconfirmed. I would not bet on the fans losing interest before then.
