PS5's 14.20 Update Reportedly Kills the 14.10 Jailbreak

Sony's latest PS5 firmware allegedly shuts the door on the 14.10 jailbreak scene, according to a new video from TCMFGamesOFFICIAL. The exploit window just got a lot smaller.

Sony just slammed a door on the PS5 jailbreak scene, and I'm calling that a point for my side before the ink even dries. According to TCMFGamesOFFICIAL, the newly released PS5 System Update 14.20 has reportedly shut down the 14.10 jailbreak that homebrew fans had been running to get PS1, PS2, and PS3 discs working on current hardware.

Credit where it's due: Xbox never needed a jailbreak scene for this kind of thing, because its backward compatibility just works out of the box. That's a real win for the green team, and I'll say it once and move on.

The channel's video title carries a question mark next to the shutdown claim, which tells you this hasn't been nailed down with a full technical breakdown yet, just a firmware drop that homebrew tinkerers are already treating as a wall going back up. This site covered the broader picture yesterday, when Sony's new PS5 firmware landed as the jailbreak race hit the GTA 6 deadline, and 14.20 looks like the next round in that same fight.

So what does Xbox do with any of this? Nothing. There's no rival jailbreak scene to patch, no backward compatibility hack to outlaw, because the thing people were hacking for already ships standard. That's not a shot at my own console, by the way, it's just the price PlayStation pays for having a back catalog worth breaking into in the first place. A locked door only matters if there was ever a treasure room behind it.
