GTA 6 Map Nearly Matches GTA 4, GTA 5, and RDR2 Combined
Rockstar says GTA 6's map nearly equals Grand Theft Auto IV, V, and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined, and co-studio head Aaron Garbut explains the density behind it.

Score this one for every console under the TV, because Rockstar just confirmed that GTA 6's map leaves the genre's past giants looking like demo levels. According to GameSpot, Rockstar told Edge magazine the GTA 6 world is roughly twice the size of GTA 5's map and three times Red Dead Redemption 2's, with total landmass nearly matching Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto V, and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined.
Xbox owners get to measure every inch of it on the same day mine do, same price tag, same map, and I'll hand over that point without any sulking.
Scale alone was never going to impress Rockstar's own co-studio head. Aaron Garbut told the magazine the game packs "an order of magnitude more interiors" than anything the studio has shipped before, and that every side street got the same attention as the main ones. He admitted there are corners of the map he still hasn't personally walked through, which is either a hell of a work ethic or a hell of a big map, maybe both.
Garbut also copped to the pressure of following a 13-year wait, saying the team refused to settle for "what people might expect" and compared the job to building "a pyramid on Everest."
Scoreboard read: Rockstar gets credit for backing up thirteen years of hype with a number instead of a slogan, Xbox gets credit for showing up on launch day with the rest of us, and the only ones still owed anything are the players waiting on GTA 6 Online, reportedly not landing until 2027.
Launch is set for November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and a map this dense means Xbox's hard drive budget is about to get tested the same as mine. Point to Rockstar, point to patience, and the console war can argue about everything else once we've actually seen the damn map for ourselves.
