Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Gets Its Paid Expansion Pass

The Dagdan Empire isn't done with you yet. Nintendo's new Expansion Pass trailer confirms three waves of paid content, starting with weapons pulled straight from Three Houses lore.

The Expansion Pass for Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is live on the eShop today, and the little announcement trailer from Nintendo of America does exactly what these trailers do: it dangles the thing you already love and asks you to love it a little longer, for a little more.

According to the description posted with the trailer, your continued stay in the Dagdan Empire arrives in three separate waves of content. The first wave lands later today, and it's built around additional weapons modeled after the Heroes' Relics from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, the kind of callback that makes longtime tacticians go soft in the chest before they've even checked the price tag.

I'll admit the Relics idea is a sweet one. Letting a newer cast wield the hallowed blades and lances of an older, beloved game is exactly the sort of cross-generational nod that makes this series feel like one long, continuous family tree rather than a shelf of disconnected entries. You'll want to see which unit gets handed which legendary weapon, and so will I.

But three separate waves of paid content for a campaign that, as covered in our earlier look at the Fortune's Weave launch, already shipped as a complete game, is a structure built for drip-feeding your wallet, not your story.

Yes, with one condition: wait for all three waves to land before you buy in, because a pass sold in installments should be judged as a whole, not on the strength of a pretty sword in wave one.
