Battlefield 6's $30 Shortcut Kit Sells the Grind Away

Thirty dollars buys a finished gun locker in Battlefield 6: every weapon for every class, already leveled to 100% Mastery, no reason to touch a single multiplayer match first. EA calls it the Ultimate Shortcut Kit, and it landed in the same week as Season 5, the game's new Game of the Year Edition, and its arrival on Xbox Game Pass, which makes for a strange bundle: subscribe for the base game, then pay extra to skip the game.

Each class, Assault, Support, Engineer, Recon, gets seven weapons and two vehicles at full Mastery, plus a training path and a handful of gadgets, all packed into one purchase that also throws in a dog tag and a title. Compare that to the shortcut kits EA ran for Battlefield 3 ($40) and Battlefield 4 ($50), and thirty dollars reads almost restrained, the kind of discipline we'd call progress if the thing being discounted weren't the climb itself.

Here's the arithmetic that actually matters: Battlefield 6 was the best selling game in the US last year, reportedly moving more than 20 million units in about three months, and EA still cut staff at the studio after launch. A subscription service and record sales numbers were supposed to be the stability that lets a shooter breathe. Instead that stability bought us a checkout page for the grind we were told built the game's community in the first place.

We'll climb the unlock tree anyway, because the climb is still the point for those of us who want it. What earns back trust is simple: let next season's weapons balance on the battlefield regardless of who paid to skip the line, not on who spent thirty extra dollars to get there first.
