Battlefield 6 Finally Gives Fans the Server Browser They Begged For
Season 5 brings Vegas, a Dead Space crossover, and the real server browser players wanted since launch, while Call of Duty quietly got outsold.
Call of Duty just got outsold by the other shooter on the block, and that's a Microsoft problem, not mine. Battlefield 6 closed out as the best-selling game in the US last year, Black Ops 7 included, and now EA is rewarding the people who bought it with the one thing they asked for from day one.
Credit where it's due, though, because the launch server browser was a genuine misfire. It only worked for Portal mode, and at least one producer reportedly wondered aloud why fans even wanted a real one. Fans wanted it because classic Battlefield always had it, letting you pick your maps and skip the nonsense. Battlefield Studios apparently got the message, and a proper server browser with custom rules and map rotation lands during Phase 3 of Season 5 in December, as detailed in the rollout covered by GameSpot and shown off in the Season 5 trailer posted by Battlefield.
The season arrives in three waves:
- Siege of Las Vegas on October 13 adds the Vegas Strip and Area 51 maps, plus a faster Rapid Royale mode for RedSec.
- A non-canon Halloween event from October 20 through November 7 sends players hunting secret tech under Area 51, with Dead Space cosmetics and environments bolted on.
- Casino Heist hits November 10 with a new European Casino map, and Frozen Aces closes things out December 8 with a snowed-in Vegas Strip and the long-awaited browser.
Is Xbox going to admit Call of Duty just lost a round it was supposed to win by default? Silence.
EA took its time getting here, but a studio that listens eventually still beats a studio that doesn't, and right now that's the only scoreboard that matters.
